K-2 Centers

January 29, 2013

Dear Teachers,

Thank you for attending today’s work session on using centers in the primary classroom!

Here are the links and documents I promised you. I hope you find them helpful.  My favorite website for literacy centers is the Florida Center for Reading Research. It is amazing because the skills are organized by grade level and common core standard. To create math centers I always visit Mathematics Coaching Consortium and K-5 Math Teaching Resources. What I love about visiting these sites is that I get a crystal clear picture of what the skill I am trying to teach looks like at a variety of grade levels. Here are some of the documents we used in today’s session. The first video we watched is one of my favorites from The Teaching Channel and is called Creating A Safe and Positive Classroom. I would love to know what you thought of today’s session and how implementing centers in your classroom is impacting student learning! Let me know by leaving a comment!

One reason this was such a successful session was your honesty. Your willingness to put your concerns, apprehensions and fears on the table right from the start helped us map a course together that met everyone’s needs.

You came in knowing you were doing what was best for your students- for so many reasons & in so many ways! With dedication like this, it’s no wonder you were collaborating at 6:00 at night!

PSA: I forgot this tonight, and we paid dearly. Sharing so maybe you won’t have to do the same.🪩We don’t have to do all the events. I don’t have to spend an hour in a loud overstimulating gymnasium because “they” say it’s fun for kids. I know it’s not fun for me. And the universe smacks me in the back of the head when we get home every time- by way of a major kid meltdown. 🌈My kids will make great childhood memories even if we skip the family dance or glow-in-the-dark bowling night. I had an AMAZING childhood and barely remember any of those types of things. I DO remember quiet times at home with my family. My core memories have nothing to do with big, organized events. 👇🏼What’s something that you think should be good for kids that just doesn’t work for your family??#goodinsideparenting #knowingyourkids #boundries #neurodivergentfamily #asdkids #ndaffirming #familytime #raisingkids #teachermom #adhdkids #teachermomlife #schooldance ... 📝 Enhancing Memory Through Handwriting!Exciting research from the Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory at the Department of Psychology in Trondheim, Norway, reveals that writing by hand can significantly boost your memory! 🧠✨When students write by hand, the brain regions involved in motor control and visual processing sync up with areas crucial for memory formation. This synchronization occurs at frequencies associated with learning, making handwritten notes a powerful tool for memory retention.Original research article: www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychology/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2023.1219945/fullwww.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/05/11/1250529661/handwriting-cursive-typing-schools-learni... ...
