Subtracting Mixed Numbers with Video Lessons

Subtracting Mixed Numbers with Video Lessons

April 19, 2020

Every year, many of my students struggle to subtract mixed numbers when regrouping is needed. Flipping my instruction around subtracting mixed numbers has made a HUGE difference! Once I have initially launched the concept, students work through problems at their own pace. First, they attempt a problem independently. Next, they click on the problem within a digital worksheet and watch… Read More

March 18, 2020

Are you hoping for your students to read and enjoy each other’s writing? I was too! And I found it so challenging for so long. This strategy, I call the Writing Shuffle, has made all the difference. Not only do students get excited to read each other’s work- but they are thoughtful about feedback, and can engage in the entire… Read More

No More Reluctant Writers

No More Reluctant Writers

November 14, 2019

For years, the reluctant writers in my classroom were my biggest stressor when it came to teaching middle school writing. There were so many students in my class that just needed to pick up their pencil and write!! No matter how much I begged, some students just would not write… and if they wouldn’t write, it was hard to get… Read More

Group Work Tips: Partnering

Group Work Tips: Partnering

August 5, 2019

I’m always on the lookout for a handy student group work strategy. This one, Clock Partners, is one of my favorites! Sometimes when you prepare for group work, you stay up too late the night before making sure everyone has just the right partner. Have you been there? I have! And, honestly, even if it goes well- it leaves me… Read More

Sometimes, I need an easy out. And I’m shocked every time that it works. I really do want reading for them- really! But, I also know know it’ll be a little like when I turned the car seats front and couldn’t snack freely without sharing anymore. 😂😂😂What’s your best #momhack white lie??#momhumor #teachermomlife #teachermom #feedingkids #bedtimebattles #christmastradition #reuse #recycle #frugalmom #lies #whitelies #momtruth #momtruths #icecreamfordinner ... 🐣 I try to hide the eggs within plain sight because as a kid, there was ALWAYS an egg (or two) discovered months later. I guess my kids are more observant than I was, because they find them all in minutes!🤒We are isolating and quarantining and eating alphabet soup by @dreenaburton today. I have all of the lasagna parts, but not enough energy to make it happen! I can’t tell if I’m tired from getting up with a sick kid, worrying about getting sick or being the Easter bunny at midnight 🤷🏼‍♀️ #momlife I guess… Happy 3rd pandemic Easter! What kind of grammar crime is driving YOU crazy these days? Currently, so am obsessed with making sure students know exactly what words make up contractions. I had a few too many run ins with “could of” recently, and I am afraid it’s going to be around every corner... in every piece of student writing. 😬Every Tuesday is Typo Tuesday, in my ELA warm ups and although I love them all... My favorite is the blank EDITABLE slide that I can customize on the fly when someone writes something RIDICULOUS on a Monday like, “they could of gone to the game.” 🤷🏼‍♀️ (Editable slides in bundles😉)So, if you are a Grammar & Conventions crime fighter, like me- you may want to check out the ELA warm ups in my Write Solutions TPT store.
